Training: How To Make Your Own Talking Avatar & Add It To Your Video

Creating your own talking avatar and adding it on top of a video is easy and straightforward once you know how to do it and what tools to use. However, when I did it for the first time, it took me a significant amount of time to figure it out and find the right tool.

Note: If you don’t want to use your own face as an avatar, Midjourney is all you need for that part. But if you want to use your own face, it’s extremely hard to do so in Midjourney.

Below, I’ve described my process of figuring out how to make my own talking avatar with a natural voice. It was a long, tedious process of trial and error, but you’ll get a shortcut with this bonus training.

First, I needed to create an avatar image suitable for animation and soon found out that I couldn’t make a usable avatar with the most popular app whose name starts with the letter “L.”

I literally paid for the L app to make, wait for it, …. 804 avatar variations, and I still couldn’t make any of them work for animation.

Now, imagine reviewing 804 images, selecting dozens of possible candidates, and then trying many of them within various apps – it was a real time hog and a ton of frustration.

After that, I tried several more apps until I finally found one that created all the avatars you see in the video. I’ll share that app’s name with you in this bonus training.

But getting the right avatar picture is just the start of making your talking avatar. Unless you want to use your own voice (I didn’t), you can get a great sounding, 100% natural voice, and of course, you need to animate it too.

There’s a deluge of text-to-voice apps, but one of them stands alone at the top as the best one. I’ll also share that app with you.

So, you’ve got the avatar picture and voiceover, and now you need to animate it.

I tried to use the most recommended avatar animating app on YouTube, which has a name that starts with the letter “D.” However, while it animated my avatar, the quality was poor, and the edges of the picture were simply bad and disjointed.

So, I went on the hunt for better avatar picture animation, and after testing many, I found the one that animated the avatars you see.

Now, if you think that’s the end of the story, it’s not.

These avatar images come with various backgrounds, and the animation app doesn’t have the ability to remove the background, only exporting video as regular mp4 files.

So, here you are with a video that isn’t green screen, with a different background pattern for each avatar. The solution is an app that can remove any background and also make that background transparent on exported video.

Finding the app to remove the background and export with transparency took me the longest, but once I found it, removing the background was just a few clicks away.

In this bonus training, I’ll show you all the steps of that process up to the point where you have your own talking avatar with a transparent background.

From there, you can take it to any video editing app to add it on top of the video. I’ll show you how I did it in the app I used, but you can do that part in any great video editor that allows the overlaying transparent video.
